Hakuna Matata

At only 10 km from Tena, capital of the absolutely safe Napo Province, this private hacienda of approximately 150 ha is the perfect place to enjoy to the fullest a never-ending series of activities, which this area lends itself to more than any other.
Hakuna Matata lies on the shores of the crystal-clear Inchillaqui River, at an altitude between 1968 and 2789 feet, which makes it free of all tropical diseases.

Hakuna Matata has a unique swimming pool, for guests only.
Archidona's hallmark is its tall hardwood palm tree, called 'chonta', so the pool has been designed as a 'chonta', but one that's 88 feet long and 72 feet wide!
Warm spring water (at a temperature of about 77° F, or 25° C) flows into the pool night and day. With a depth ranging from 1 to 7 feet the pool is great for swimming, diving or just splashing around. Around the pool, there are deck chairs and off to one side there is a special spot for relaxing, with hammocks and a massage bench.
From the pool, there is a spectacular view of the Llanganati mountains. Ideal for 'dolce far niente' after a long trip or before you take off for yet another hike!

Horseback Riding

This unforgettable excursion is suited for both beginners and advanced riders. You go on a very varied trip, that takes about two hours and a half, under professional guidance and with well-cared-for saddle horses.
The ride goes through small rivers and brooklets, over hilly spots, with beautiful flora. This is a carefully planned soft adventure that allows you to cover our grounds from the comfort of a saddle. You will enjoy wonderful views along the way. The whole trip takes place on the Hakuna Matata Amazon lodge property.

Whitewater Rafting

Hakuna Matata works together with the organizer of the rafting world championship, held in Ecuador in October 2005, for both rafting and kayaking. Anzu River, Jatunyacu River (upper Napo), Misahualli River and Hollin River: adrenaline between class 2 and 4+… organized in compliance with all international safety regulations!

Birdwatching

The open plains, secondary and primary forest, rivers and small streams are ideal biotopes for a great variety of bird species.The flora diversity and different altitudinal levels offer food during the whole year for seed- eaters, fruit-eaters and berry-eaters. There are also lots of insects, which are eaten by other food specialists.
From the cabañas, lodge, restaurant and bar, bird-lovers have a beautiful view on different biotopes and can enjoy birdwatching to their heart’s content.

River Tubing

River Tubing on one of the quiet rivers through primary forest is an especially serene experience.

Jungle Hikes

You will enjoy hiking under the shade of hundred year old trees, our tour leader will be assisted by a native guide who will share his first hand knowledge of the rainforest. The hike is moderate and can last between 2-3 hours depending on interest. We have the possibility to encounter hundreds of bird species, butterflies, insects, amphibians, the ocassional monkey and the shy snake. Our native guide will highlight the most important medicinal plants, explaining ancestral traditions on how to induce fertility or the opposite birth control with the use of herbs.
